Bani Processes $100M in Payments on Just $100K Raised, Lands Google Accelerator Spot

Written By: Flipbz.org

Bani has built one of the more capital efficient growth stories in African fintech this year, processing roughly 100 million dollars in total payment volume in 2026 while having disclosed only around 100,000 dollars in outside funding to date, a ratio that stands out sharply against a fintech landscape where volume typically scales alongside heavy venture backing. Founded in 2022, the Lagos based startup builds infrastructure that lets African businesses collect payments locally, pay international suppliers, and settle transactions through a combination of local currency rails and stablecoins, tackling the friction that has long made cross border business payments across the continent slow and expensive.

That efficiency has not gone unnoticed by one of the more selective accelerator programmes on the continent. Bani was selected for the tenth cohort of the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa, a programme that accepted fewer than one percent of nearly 2,600 applications submitted from across Africa, giving the startup access to mentorship, technical workshops focused on AI and cloud technologies, and a network of peer companies also building at the infrastructure layer of African fintech.

The core value proposition behind Bani's traction centers on cost. The company says its infrastructure can reduce cross-border transaction costs by as much as 25 percent, a meaningful saving for businesses that regularly move money internationally to pay suppliers, manage treasury, or settle invoices across multiple currencies. That cost advantage becomes especially relevant for African businesses operating in markets where currency volatility, banking relationship gaps, and slow correspondent banking networks routinely add both delay and expense to what should be straightforward transactions.

By blending local currency settlement rails with stablecoin infrastructure, Bani is positioning itself within a broader shift reshaping cross border payments across Africa, where stablecoins have increasingly moved from a niche crypto use case into practical settlement infrastructure for businesses seeking faster, cheaper alternatives to traditional banking rails. That dual rail approach gives Bani flexibility to route transactions through whichever settlement method proves fastest or cheapest for a given corridor, rather than being locked into a single payment method regardless of destination.

What makes Bani's story particularly compelling is the disconnect between its funding profile and its operational scale. Companies processing nine figures in payment volume typically carry substantial venture backing to fund the compliance infrastructure, banking partnerships, and engineering talent that kind of volume demands, yet Bani has reached that milestone while remaining a fundamentally lean, early stage operation. With a coveted spot in Google's accelerator program now adding both credibility and technical support to that foundation, Bani looks positioned to convert its unusually efficient early growth into a stronger fundraising position, betting that proven capital efficiency and real transaction volume will speak louder to investors than growth achieved purely through heavy cash burn.
