Rigo has secured a place among Africa's most selective embedded finance cohorts this year, earning selection into Renew Capital's inaugural Embedded Finance Series alongside fellow Nigerian startups Tradevu and Regxta. The competition to get there was steep. The programme selected the 15 startups from a pool of more than 500 applicants spanning 48 African countries, giving Nigeria one of the strongest national showings in the final cohort and putting a healthcare focused fintech squarely inside a continental conversation usually dominated by broader SME lending and payments players.
What makes Rigo's inclusion particularly notable is how narrowly it has focused its solution. Rather than building generic SME financing tools, the company operates two connected arms built specifically around healthcare's unique operational pain points. Rigo Finance provides healthcare businesses, including hospitals, pharmacies and diagnostic centers, with fast, collateral free financing alongside financial tracking tools designed around the irregular cash flow cycles common to healthcare operations, where insurance reimbursements and HMO payments often lag behind the costs of running a facility. Alongside that, Rigo Tech provides software infrastructure for HMOs, hospitals and other healthcare stakeholders, positioning the company at the intersection of two problems Nigerian healthcare businesses face simultaneously: outdated operational software and limited access to the working capital needed to keep facilities running smoothly.

That dual pronged approach is exactly the kind of embedded finance thesis Renew Capital's programme was built to identify. The broader initiative centers on using existing business platforms, customer relationships and data to expand financial access to African SMEs, a model that fits naturally with how Rigo already sits inside healthcare providers' daily operations through its software before extending financing based on the operational data that relationship generates. For healthcare businesses that traditional lenders often view as high risk or difficult to underwrite due to unpredictable reimbursement timelines, that embedded data advantage could prove far more valuable than a conventional collateral based lending model ever could.
Selection into the cohort brings tangible next steps too. Companies chosen for the Renew Venture Lab receive structured technical training, direct mentorship, and consideration for follow on investment, giving Rigo a clearer pathway toward the institutional capital that specialized fintechs, particularly ones serving a niche as specific as healthcare financing, often struggle to attract through conventional venture channels. With African healthcare systems facing chronic underinvestment and financing gaps that ripple down to individual clinics and pharmacies, Rigo's bet is that combining operational software with embedded financing gives it a genuinely differentiated foothold in a segment of Africa's SME economy that most fintechs have largely overlooked, and one that Renew Capital's backing may now help it scale faster.
