Regxta Lands Renew Capital Slot as Nigeria's Rural Fintech Story Keeps Compounding

Written By: Flipbz.org

Regxta has secured a coveted spot in one of the more selective embedded finance programmes to launch on the continent this year, earning selection into Renew Capital's inaugural EmFi Series alongside fellow Nigerian startups Tradevu and Rigo. The competition for those slots was steep. The programme selected the 15 startups from a pool of more than 500 applicants spanning 48 African countries, with participating companies receiving deeper technical training and being considered for potential follow on investment as part of the cohort.

The recognition adds to what has already been a defining year for the startup. Founded by Faith Bello alongside co founders who joined the journey along the way, Regxta uses an agency model to offer quick and easy access to financial services for unbanked individuals and micro businesses in rural and peri urban communities across Africa, deploying trained community agents to help customers open digital wallets, save money and access loans without the bureaucratic paperwork typical of traditional microfinance banks. The model leans heavily on trust rather than paperwork, using a cross guarantorship system where before you get a loan from Regxta, you must give us someone who is already a member, a location based trust network that has produced a strikingly low default rate.

The numbers behind that model have grown substantially. Regxta now operates in over 100 communities across eight states in Nigeria, has disbursed over 2 billion naira in loans, and counts more than 200 agents supporting roughly 25,000 customers, with only 72 currently blacklisted for expired loans, a default rate below one percent. Beyond straightforward lending, the company has expanded into asset financing, buying items like freezers for customers who pay in installments, partnering with suppliers to sell goods like rice on credit, and even covering children's school fees for parents needing cash flow flexibility.

That traction has caught the attention of some of the more selective accelerators in African tech this year too. Regxta was also selected for the tenth cohort of the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa, a program that accepted fewer than one percent of nearly 2,600 applicants from across the continent, with the accelerator specifically highlighting how Regxta uses alternative data to score creditworthiness and deliver financial products to unbanked micro businesses that traditional lenders typically overlook. The three month equity free programme paired Regxta with mentorship and technical workshops focused on AI and cloud technologies, adding to a growing list of institutional validation for the startup's approach.

On the funding side, Regxta has raised close to a million dollars to date and is currently raising a 2 million dollar pre-seed round to fund its next phase, which includes plans for a MicroFinance Bank licence and a version 2.0 platform that will introduce personal banking for the roughly 40 percent of its customers who now own smartphones. With a two-story company owned building set to open in 2026 and ambitions that stretch toward becoming a genuine household name in agency banking across Africa, Regxta's inclusion in Renew Capital's EmFi Series looks like one more institutional vote of confidence in a company that has spent years building trust the slow way, one community agent at a time.
