Codar Tech Africa has become one of the standout Nigerian startup funding stories of the past few weeks, closing a fresh 1.5 million dollar round aimed squarely at the country's growing AI and digital skills gap. Founded in Lagos in 2022 by Sokefun David, Williams Olusegun, Oduoye John and Asaolu Emmanuel, Codar has built its reputation on practical, project based training designed to prepare learners for real world tech careers, and today serves more than 5,000 active learners while having reached over 70,000 students through its various programmes and initiatives.
The new capital, structured as a mix of equity and debt financing, will support the expansion of Codar's artificial intelligence education initiatives while strengthening its broader portfolio of technology training programs, including software development, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and data analytics. A company spokesperson framed the round as validation of something bigger than a classroom curriculum, noting that Codar's mission has always been about building a generation of African innovators who will solve local problems with global technology, and that the investment gives the company resources to reach thousands more learners.
Practically, the funds will be deployed across several fronts. Codar plans to establish additional physical learning hubs, broaden scholarship opportunities for aspiring technology professionals in underserved communities, and enhance its online learning platform, alongside deepening industry tie ups that connect graduates directly with employers hunting for AI talent. The company, a portfolio venture of KWE4 Africa Venture Studio, has also worked with partners including the Interswitch Developer Community on talent building initiatives such as its Buildathon programme, reflecting a wider push by African fintechs to strengthen the region's engineering pipeline.
The announcement lands at a particularly encouraging moment for Nigerian tech. Nigeria regained its position as Africa's leading destination for equity startup investment in the first half of 2026, raising 214 million dollars in equity financing and a total of 254 million dollars across equity and debt, surpassing the 250 million dollar mark for the first time since 2022. Notably, Nigeria also recorded the highest number of startups raising at least 100,000 dollars during the period, pointing to a broader pipeline of companies attracting investor interest rather than funding being concentrated in a handful of large deals.
For Codar, that broader momentum only adds weight to its ambitions. With demand for AI, cloud and cybersecurity skills vastly outpacing supply across the continent, the company is positioning itself as one of the ventures best placed to turn Nigeria's youthful population into a genuine talent export, training engineers not just for Lagos, but for a continent racing to catch up on artificial intelligence.
