In a groundbreaking move to bridge Nigeria’s digital divide, Zinox Technologies, a leading Nigerian ICT solutions provider, has joined forces with KongaCares to unveil the ambitious “Computerize Nigeria” initiative. Launched at the prestigious GITEX Nigeria event, this corporate social responsibility program aims to empower one million young Nigerians, particularly students in higher education, with free laptops and comprehensive digital infrastructure.
The initiative revives the vision of the early 2000s Computerize Nigeria Project, which sought to place computers in homes, schools, and workplaces across the nation.Originally sparked in 2001 under the leadership of Mrs. Vivian Abii, the project laid the foundation for the 2006 Computer for All Nigerians initiative, championed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Zinox, a key player in those efforts, is now reigniting the mission with a modern twist, focusing on holistic digital inclusion.Unlike traditional tech handouts, this program offers more than just devices. Each beneficiary will receive a laptop bundled with iPower inverter solutions to tackle Nigeria’s chronic power outages and Starlink-powered satellite internet for reliable connectivity. The package also includes technology training and after-sales support, creating a complete digital ecosystem tailored to Nigeria’s unique challenges.
“This isn’t just about giving out laptops,” said Leo Stan Ekeh, Chairman of Zinox Group. “We’re building sustainable digital access to empower students and institutions, ensuring they can thrive in a global tech-driven economy.”
The initiative’s interest-free Flexipay model makes it affordable, removing financial barriers for schools and students. Quarterly reports will ensure transparency, allowing donors to track the program’s impact. The partnership invites collaboration from government bodies, alumni associations, NGOs, and philanthropists to support the goal of equipping Nigeria’s youth for a competitive future. By fostering digital literacy, the program aligns with the government’s vision of producing world-class human capital and positions Nigerian graduates to excel in the global knowledge economy.
Flagged off at GITEX Nigeria, the event drew ICT industry leaders and showcased the initiative’s potential to transform education and drive economic growth. As digital literacy becomes a cornerstone of progress, Zinox and KongaCares are paving the way for a tech-savvy Nigeria, one laptop at a time.
