Tradevu has landed a place in one of the more selective startup programmes to launch on the continent this year, earning a spot among just 15 companies chosen for Renew Capital's inaugural Renew Venture Lab focused on embedded finance. The competition for those slots was fierce by any standard. The programme selected the 15 startups from a pool of more than 500 applicants spanning 48 African countries, a filtering ratio that underscores just how competitive the embedded finance space has become across the continent as more SMEs push for financial services built directly into the tools they already use daily.
Nigeria emerged as one of the stronger represented countries in the final cohort, with three Nigerian companies making the cut. Tradevu was selected alongside fellow Nigerian startups Regxta and Rigo, giving Nigeria one of the largest national representations in the program and reinforcing the country's continued dominance in Africa's fintech and embedded finance ecosystem.
Tradevu's core proposition centers on a problem that has long limited SME growth across Nigeria: businesses generate substantial commercial activity, from sales records to transaction histories, yet struggle to convert that activity into access to credit, working capital or other financial products. By building infrastructure that helps SMEs access financial services through their existing business activity, Tradevu is positioning itself alongside a wave of African fintechs betting that embedded finance, delivering credit, payments or banking tools directly within the platforms businesses already use, will prove more effective than traditional standalone banking products in closing Africa's persistent SME financing gap.
Being selected for the Renew Venture Lab carries tangible near term benefits beyond prestige. Companies chosen for the cohort receive structured technical training, direct mentorship from experienced operators and investors, and consideration for follow on investment, giving startups like Tradevu a pathway toward institutional capital that many early stage African fintechs struggle to access through conventional channels. For a company built around helping SMEs prove their creditworthiness through business activity data, the programme's embedded finance focus lines up almost perfectly with Tradevu's own product thesis, positioning the startup to sharpen both its technology and its investor relationships at the same time.
With Renew Capital putting its institutional weight behind a small, tightly vetted group of embedded finance startups, Tradevu's inclusion signals growing confidence that its approach to SME financial access is one of the more promising models emerging from Nigeria's crowded fintech landscape, and one worth watching as the cohort's mentorship and investment phases unfold over the coming months.
