OSC to Launch Tech Hub in Nigeria, Strengthening South-South Collaboration

Written By: Flipbz.org

The Organisation of Southern Cooperation (OSC) has revealed ongoing high-level talks with the Nigerian government to establish a cutting-edge technological hub in the country. This is aimed at spurring innovation, research, and digital transformation across Nigeria and the broader African continent.

The initiative, announced by OSC Secretary-General Manssor Bin-Mussalam in an exclusive interview with The Guardian in Abuja, seeks to tap into Nigeria’s vibrant youth population by equipping them with essential digital skills and resources for the global economy. The hub is envisioned as a dynamic platform to nurture local talent, facilitate knowledge sharing, and drive sustainable development through technology-focused solutions.

Founded in 2020 and headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the OSC is dedicated to fostering South-South cooperation among nations in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Pacific. Bin-Mussalam emphasized that the proposed tech hub would not only bolster Nigeria’s digital ecosystem but also enhance collaboration among Global South countries, positioning Nigeria as a regional powerhouse in technology and innovation.

“This partnership is a step toward empowering Nigeria’s economy beyond its reliance on oil,” Bin-Mussalam stated. “By fostering a thriving environment for startups and small businesses, the hub will attract international investment and create opportunities in the digital marketplace.”

While negotiations are still in the early stages, both parties are reportedly committed to advancing the project. “If all goes according to plan, we aim to establish the hub in its initial form by 2026, with full development by 2027,” Bin-Mussalam said, reflecting the OSC’s urgency to deliver results. “We’re driven by a relentless pursuit of progress, always pushing to get things done as quickly as possible.”

With Nigeria’s vast human capital and entrepreneurial energy, the OSC sees the country as a linchpin for technological advancement in Africa, poised to lead the charge in building a connected, innovative Global South.
