Enakl Raises $1.4M to Transform Urban Mobility in Africa with Sustainable, Tech-Driven Solutions

Moroccan urban mobility startup Enakl has secured $1.4 million in pre-seed funding to advance its mission of delivering intelligent, safer, and sustainable shared transportation for daily commutes across Africa. Founded in September 2023 by Samir Bennani and Charles Pommarede, with Ahmed Omrane later joining as associate CTO, Enakl’s platform tackles urban congestion and carbon emissions by offering a reliable, tech-powered bus-sharing service tailored for emerging markets.

The funding round, led by Catalyst Fund and backed by Renew Capital, Digital Africa, Station F, and 15 business angels, will fuel Enakl’s expansion in Casablanca, where it already manages over 15,000 monthly bookings with a 20% growth rate, and into other African cities by 2030. The startup leverages AI to optimize routes, ensuring efficient travel times and high occupancy rates, while partnering with corporations and local operators to keep services affordable and accessible. Notably, 60% of its users are women, underscoring its impact on gender equity in mobility.

“This funding allows us to deepen our impact in Casablanca, expand our reach, and accelerate our technology, leveraging AI to enhance commuter experiences and drive sustainable urban mobility,” said co-founders Bennani and Pommarede. Maxime Bayen of Catalyst Fund praised Enakl’s scalable, green approach: “By reducing emissions and congestion through tech-driven shared transport, Enakl addresses urbanization’s challenges while enhancing accessibility.” Renew Capital’s CEO Adam Abate echoed this, noting Enakl’s strategic execution as key to solving urban transit woes across Africa.

With Morocco’s ride-sharing market valued at just $4.15 million in 2024, Enakl’s innovative model—combining B2B contracts with corporations like Carrefour and Sitel, AI-driven routing, and a focus on sustainability—positions it to capture significant market share and set a new standard for inclusive, eco-friendly urban mobility across the continent.
