CardCentre, MTN Launch Nigeria’s First Biodegradable SIM Cards

CardCentre Nigeria Limited, a Chams HoldCo subsidiary, has partnered with MTN Nigeria to introduce eco-friendly SIM cards. The locally manufactured SIMs, unveiled in Lagos, are 100% biodegradable and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). This marks a significant step for Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.

CardCentre’s Managing Director, Mr. Olalekan Latona, hailed the initiative as a milestone. “These SIM cards meet global sustainability standards,” he said. “They showcase the strength of Nigerian manufacturing when given the right support.”

MTN Nigeria’s Chief Sales and Distribution Officer, Mr. Olusina Adegoke, emphasized the importance of local production. “This partnership boosts Nigeria’s manufacturing capabilities and reduces import dependency,” he noted. MTN’s Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, Mr. Tobe Okigbo, added, “We’re investing in local businesses to drive national growth.”

The biodegradable SIMs align with CardCentre’s focus on sustainable innovation. Known for smart card solutions in finance, telecoms, and public sectors, the company plans to expand its eco-friendly offerings. Research is underway to develop more sustainable products.

The launch underscores Nigeria’s growing role in environmentally conscious manufacturing. It positions CardCentre and MTN as leaders in the nation’s push for local, sustainable innovation.
